7 Fun and Free Activities to do With Your Family

Summer is just around the corner, which means more time with the family and more sunshine. When it comes to creating those fun memories together, here are some ideas of inexpensive activities do enjoy this summer:

1. Have a picnic

When it comes to free activities, going to the park is a great one. To make the day even more memorable, pack a blanket and some of your family’s favorite snacks. Picnics can be fun anywhere, and they can be a really easy way to have some fun with your family. One of the best things about picnics is that it doesn’t have to be a planned event, just take your meal to the back yard, or even your porch and enjoy the fresh air.

2. Camping

What more can I say, campfires, smores, the great outdoors. Alright, I know for most people you either love camping or hate it. So, for those of you who are on the latter end of that statement, try pitching a tent in your backyard. You can even skip the tent all together and just roll out a sleeping bag under the stars or throw some blankets on the trampoline.

3. Hiking

Whether you are an experienced back packer or just want to enjoy a walk in nature, there are plenty of beautiful places to explore with your family. Find a trail that looks fun and head out there. Just make sure to plan a hike that won’t be too difficult for your family to complete and pack plenty of water.

4. Outdoor art projects

This could be as simple as a drawing contest on the sidewalk with chalk or if you’re feeling adventurous, go for a hike and collect flowers, sticks, and leaves along the way. Get out the paper and start gluing together a mural of everything you’ve collected.

5. Free local activities

Summer is a great time to keep track of your city’s local events, like farmer’s markets, outdoor music concerts, and movies in the park. There’s usually something exciting and inexpensive to take your family to.

6. Splash pads, lakes, creeks, and all things water

There’s no better way to combat the heat of the summer than water. Take a trip to a nearby lake, or find a creek up the canyon, or a splash pad in the city.

7. Games

Bring on those childhood favorites, hop scotch, horse shoes, capture the flag, or catch a football. Not your thing? Have your family come up with a game together, use cards or a ball or silly string. Decide on the rules, and embrace the fun!

Whatever fun activities you decide to do with your family this summer, remember to be safe and use sunscreen.
